Bethesda Community Hong Kong was planted through a cell church project initiated by the Singapore Brethren churches; we report to Pastor Philip Tan, Senior Pastor of Bethesda Community Church Singapore.
-
Pastor Tan invited Pastor Tim to Singapore in early 1997 to join the Cell Church Conference 1997 hosted by Faith Community Baptist Church, Singapore. During that conference, God touched Pastor Tim’s and Bethesda Community Hong Kong was conceived as a vision in Pastor Tim heart. God called him to build a church without walls that can grow without limits.
-
We started our first cell group meeting in April, 1997 in Pastor Tim’s home. The first meeting had 5 attendees, Pastor Tim, Pastor Deborah and Jeremy their son plus two other guests.
-
During the second cell meeting, the two guests of the first meeting did not want to come again, but the Lord provided another two guests. So it was again a 5-person meeting. After the humble beginning, the cell grew to over 12 people in 4 months.
-
By 1998, four cells were built and we started our own Sunday Celebration by renting Room 103 at the Duke of Windsor House (香港社會服務聯會溫莎公爵大廈 ), 15 Hennessy Road, Wanchai every Sunday.
-
In 1998, the first two bapisms were held, one on 1 February and one on 2 October. Candidates baptized that year included Pastor Deborah, Mimi Lo, Sylvia Wong, Ka Wai Pang, Joseph Cheng, Ivy Ng, Arthur Cheng and Nicolas Cheng and many others.
-
The church was registered officially under the Company Ordinance (Cap. 32) as Bethesda Community Church (H.K.) Limited, a charitable organization.
-
In 1999, the church registered a daughter company called Bethesda Community Social Services Limited to operate a tuition centre for new immigrant children from 1999 to 2003.
-
In 2000, BC-HK moved their Sunday celebrations to a rented location at 2/F, Comfort Court, 19 Playing Field Road, Mongkok as God called us to serve the local community there.
-
In 2002, Pastor Tim attended the International G12 Conference in February 2002 hosted by Faith Community Baptist Church, Singapore and caught the Government of twelve (G12) vision from God. From then on, BC-HK transitioned into a G12 cell church.
-
As the church grew, BC-HK moved our celebrations to 2D, Kenwood Mansions, 15 Playing Field Road, Mongkok and started a youth celebration on Saturday nights in 2004.
-
In Sep 2005, BC-HK hosted the first inter-church conference “Hearing God’s Voice” and began their journey of serving other members of the Body of Christ.
-
As a vision driven church, we preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and grow under the principle of the Government of 12 (G12), a cell network that equips Christians to be leaders and multiplies cell groups.
